The West Africa ICT Action Network (Liberia) is excited to celebrate Global Encryption Day on October 21, 2023. In the wake of increasing government attacks on end-to-end encryption (E2EE) worldwide, it is crucial to stand united in defending the fundamental right to privacy and digital security. The event aims to raise awareness about the importance of end-to-end encryption, its significance in safeguarding online communications, and to counter any proposals that seek to undermine this critical technology.
Event Objectives:
- Educate the Public: Raise awareness among the general public, policymakers, and media about the significance of end-to-end encryption in ensuring digital safety and protecting individual privacy.
- Advocacy and Policy Discussion: Facilitate discussions and engage stakeholders to understand the current state of affairs in Liberia concerning online privacy, encryption policies, and the potential implications of weakening E2EE.
- Empower Civil Society: Encourage civil society organizations, human rights activists, and tech communities to unite in their efforts to protect end-to-end encryption and advocate for stronger digital privacy laws.
- Digital Security Best Practices: Provide practical tips and guidance on digital security best practices for individuals and organizations to protect themselves online.
