Strong encryption is a fundamental part of how we remain safe online and offline:https://youtu.be/y5G_Rggsg8E. It means people can communicate with another person safe in the knowledge no-one is listening in or tampering with their messages. Despite this, governments around the world are ramping up their attacks on end -to-end encryption (E2EE). Governments view it as a hurdle for law enforcement agencies. But systematically weakening people’s digital safety is not the answer. End-to-end encryption is the gold standard of security in a world where daily life is increasingly online. We need to push back against government efforts to undermine E2EE.
On the annual Global Encryption Day, we join our efforts to discuss how to protect end-to-end encryption and defeat any proposals that undermine it. Global Encryption Day rallies fellow Global Encryption Coalition (GEC) members and partners to protect end-to-end encryption and encourage its use in products. Internet Society South Sudan is part of this.
Internet Society South Sudan Chapter will have its Encryption Day activities on 21st October from 9am to 4pm. It will be in a hybrid format with both physical and online participation. The goals of the event are the following:
1)To explain the technical details of encryption
2)To create awareness about encryption and the importance of end to end encryption
3)Advocate for strong encryption
4)To create awareness on how to defend encryption
